Original L.I.R.A. (Little Italy Restaurant Association) members have dedicated their efforts to promoting and preserving the image of Little Italy since the 1970‘s when three restauranteurs saw a need for unity among the neighborhood’s restaurants. It thrives today in the spirit of its founders and is the punch and power behind several key events in Little Italy, most notably, the Open Air Film Festival held Friday evenings in July and August. Since 1999, the Film Fest has drawn thousands of summertime visitors to The Neighborhood as attendees congregate with lawn chairs, blankets, and food on the corner of High and Stiles Streets and enjoy a free Hollywood movie and popcorn under the stars. The association also hosts the annual Little Italy Tree Lighting on the first Friday in December.
